The Jesus Prayer
The
Jesus Prayer is an extremely short prayer but a very popular one particularly in
the Eastern and Orthodox Churches where it originated. The prayer is usually
repeated over and over again in the form of a mantra but its simplicity and
brevity has been a tremendous aid for many people in their meditative prayer.
Jesus, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me.
There
is a second version which simply adds the words "a sinner" to the end of the
prayer.
